£125k NHSE funding announced per ICB for COPD tech funding

Up to £125k of targeted funding is being made available by NHSE this winter for ICBs to reduce COPD pressures using NICE-recommended tech. This funding offers a real chance for ICBs to improve flow and deliver tech-enabled patient care as winter hits. We’re already having several conversations with our NHS partners on how to best utilise the funding and offering support with the (reasonable!) application.

Time is short, with a deadline of 19th August 2024, so please do get in touch on clinitouch@spirit-health.com if you’re interested and would like to chat about how to best use these funds. Below is more information about how Clinitouch technology could support COPD services across the NHS.

The problem:

  • COPD admissions dropped post-COVID but have now returned to pre-COVID levels
  • Bed day costs have risen, as has average length of stay
  • NICE states COPD is the second highest cause of emergency admissions

Clinitouch tech:

  • One of a handful of NICE-approved platforms for COPD self-management
  • Proven to reduce unplanned admissions by over two-thirds
  • Experience in pulmonary rehabilitation programmes which are also eligible

Service gains:

  • This intervention could reduce total COPD-related bed days by 30%, and around 67% in the target cohort
  • Potential savings of over 194,000 bed days across England
  • Over £117m estimated savings of averted admissions across England - including £10m for a single ICB!

After calculating the possible clinical and financial savings of this intervention for every ICB, it is clear that this funding offers a real chance to improve flow and deliver tech-enabled patient care as winter hits.
